2008-2010 – preliminary preparation for the project implementation, coordinated on the polish side by the Secretary of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites in cooperation with the representatives of the State of Israel, Kingdom of the Netherlands  and the Slovak Republic. The undersigning of  Memorandum of Understanding (Memorandum of Understanding on the collective project to establish a Museum-Memorial Site in the area of the former Nazi-German extermination camp in Sobibór);

17-18 November 2010 – final meeting of the group of substantive experts in Amsterdam; a set of recommendations on the project implementation was developed;

7 December 2010 – the first meeting of the Steering Group, chaired by Mr. Piotr Żuchowski. In the meeting in Warsaw the following decisions are taken (in particular): the appointment of the Foundation for Polish-German Reconciliation for the operator of the foreign financial  as well the replacement of the Council for the Protection of Struggle and Martyrdom Sites with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as a coordinating body on the Polish side.

December 2010 – beginning of negotiations about taking over the supervision of the Memorial Site in Sobibór by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. The negotiations were conducted with the District office in Włodawa, which is an operator of the Łęczyńsko- Włodawskie Lakeland Museum. The Museum in Sobibór is, since 1993, the branch of the Łęczyńsko- Włodawskie Lakeland Museum;

28 February 2011 – the second meeting of the Steering Group in Warsaw. Members of the Steering Group set tentatively the scope of the first stage of expedition of the archeological research, which were then the basis for the later realization of the investment part of the project. Moreover, the representatives of States (members of the project) sign the new version of the Memorandum of Understanding (Memorandum of Understanding on the collective project to establish a Museum-Memorial Site in the area of the former Nazi-German extermination camp in Sobibór);

April – June 2011 – first stage of the expedition of archeological research in the area of the former German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór;

29 June 2011 – the third meeting of the Steering Group in Warsaw during which the members of the Steering Group analyze the results of the first expedition of archeological research. The Steering Group discusses also the principles of functioning of the Memorial Site in Sobibór during and after the project implementation;

Summer 2011 – arrangement of the scope of the second stage of expedition of archeological research in Sobibor;

Autumn 2011 – realization of the second stage of expedition of archeological research in Sobibor;

December 2011 – completion of negotiations between the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the District Office in Włodawa on the conditions of the transfer of the area of the former German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibor to the State Museum at Majdanek;

17 January 2012 – signing by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland and the Starost of Włodawa the letter of intent on the establishment by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage a branch of the State Museum at Majdanek in the area of the former German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór;

28 March 2012 – during the fourth meeting of the Steering Group in Warsaw the Secretary of State by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage informs on process of taking charge of the Memorial Site in Sobibór by the State Museum at Majdanek. Furthermore, the presentation of archeologists on stage of the research conducted in the area of the former German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór is made for the Steering Group. On the basis of the presentation members of the Steering Group enter into discussion on possibility of starting the next – investment stage of the project;

2 April 2012 – the order of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage on the establishment of the branch of the State Museum at Majdanek, under the name of a Museum of the Former Sobibór Extermination Camp;

24 May 2012 – the fifth meeting of the Steering Group in Warsaw. In the meeting the members of the Steering Group tentatively make arrangements relating to the conduction of the contest for the arrangement of the Memorial Site in Sobibór and to the need of conduction of the third expedition of archeological research;

Summer 2012 – realization of the third expedition of archeological research;

June-August 2012 – the Foundation for Polish-German Reconciliation prepares in cooperation with the State Museum at Majdanek and with own experts the project of the contest regulations on a new architectural-artistic concept of the new Memorial Site after the German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór;

11 October 2012 – the sixth meeting of the Steering Group in Amsterdam. It was entirely dedicated to discussions aimed at obtaining approval for the final version of the contest regulations on a new architectural-artistic concept of the new Memorial Site after the German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór. The members of the Steering Group make themselves acquainted with the results of the third expedition of archeological research and take decision as regard the need of conduction of the fourth expedition of archeological research in the area of the pits full of ashes of the victims murdered in the Sobibór German-Nazi extermination camp;

November 2012 – May 2013 – realization of the fourth expedition of archeological research;

December 2012 – settlement on the proposed project of the contest regulations; the completion of the proposed composition of the Contest Jury;

18 January 2013 – the inauguration of the international contest on a new conceptual-artistic and architectural-landscaping concept of the new Memorial Site after the German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór;

15 July 2013 – the seventh meeting of the Steering Group in Warsaw. In the meeting the Steering Group summarized and discussed the activities that were carried out in reference to the performance of the contest on a new conceptual-artistic and architectural-landscaping concept of the new Memorial Site after the German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór. Moreover, the Steering Group make itself acquainted with the information as regard to completed fourth expedition of archeological research;

18 July 2013 – announcement of the results of the international contest on a new conceptual-artistic and architectural-landscaping concept in the area of the former German-Nazi extermination camp in Sobibór;

14 October 2013 – commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the uprising in the Sobibor German-Nazi extermination camp;

Autumn 2013 – arrangement of the scope of the fifth expedition of archeological research and its implementation

January 2014 – The State Museum at Majdanek enters into agreement with the authors of the conceptual-artistic concept selected in the contest for the architectural-landscaping concept of the arrangement of the Memorial Site in Sobibór. The subject of the agreement is development of complete project documentation.
